Farrah FancyFroggyJams has yet to eat Mommy’s amazing chx & dumplings, but still found reason to annotate the recipe. Saturday is very special in our house for several reasons and most of them involve the fact that to-morrow is Sunday!!! The cartoons are different, Mom Mom comes to see her and a general sense of relief abounds. This Sunday is going to be extra special because someone is going on an extra special adventure to Talula’s Table for her first encounter with the Mr. Claus. She doesn’t know it yet, but it should be interesting to say the absolute least. Happy Weekend everyone!

Probably a tad too far on the parental leniency scale, but I figure she can work off any excess sugar tap dancing to Jack’s Big Music Show. We had a not-so-fun first this morning: Caroline removed her pajamas and her diaper before we got up and got her out of her crib. No real big deal, but we have an oft repeated mantra that Caroline takes off the jammies and Daddy takes off the diaper. I guess we should just be glad that she has yet to realize how easily she could summon her inner monkey and climb out of her crib. I can only imagine that our mornings will never be the same. So far, she’s actually been very reserved with the jelly. I’m sure there would have been a much different outcome if I had honored her request to apply her own butter.

When I just asked Pandabunny what she was doing in this picture, she said that she was making a mess. “You can’t throw Cheerios on the floor. You have to put them in a cup.” I don’t think that Beau and Brady ate any less cereal per this maxim, but it’s nice to know that she has absorbed at least a kernel of “wrong from right.” I guess there are more expensive things to be spilling and certainly worse things for the dogs to be eating.

It seems like every year it gets worse, so I must be getting dumber with age. Or my foresight is going faster than my eyesight. The holiday bustle is taxing enough without the added stress of last-minute shopping and financial worry, so why do I fail to properly plan like I would for anything else this paramount? I’m well-accustomed to the uber-frustrating Christmas Eve run up and down Concord Pike because my work schedule usually disallows anything in the preceding few days (and I’m just one of those procrastinating types), but not putting money aside to at least entertain the possibility is starting to get old. It seems like all the bills pile up and come due in December and the dollars just aren’t there to buy everything online by December 5th and simply enjoy oneself when the crunch finally arrives. Maybe January credit card debt isn’t something I have to worry about, but I still long to be one of those people that take simple, proactive steps to make this beautiful season less of a fustercluck. Please, if you purchased your wrapping paper for a dime on the dollar at Kohl’s last January, don’t rub it in. If, on the other hand, you happen to share my syndrome, please help me form a support team so we can figure this shit out for next year.

The month is half over and this silly year is nearly behind us. The latter half wasn’t so kind and our world got a little rocked towards the end. The holiday spirit is in full effect and the weather is complying nicely. I am not sure how Santa will treat my girls, but having them safe + healthy will do. My eyes are open, my energy is high and my mind is clear. I hope that is enough.

Vacation is suspect at best. In the United States, having two weeks paid a year is still seen as quite a professional accomplishment, at least in some professions. I haven’t really been on one since we went to Charleston, SC, two years ago and, thankfully, had to evacuate early because of Earl’s GGF or so. It is much easier (and cheaper) to spend nine days in Trolley Square, rejoicing about not being at work. I usually spend the time regretting yard/office/other work that I’ve neglected the other 50 weeks of the year and can now handle but won’t. I watch a lot of Law&Order.
